HISTORY
 
According to biblical legend, Jesus Christ was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist.
Legend of Saint Jordan’s Day :
According to the legend , the night before the holiday ,the  sky opens and whoever at this moment ask for something it will come true.

Tradition :
On this day the water is consecrated. After service in the church the priest throws a cross into the water and the bachelors remove it .

To non meat dishes are added nuts, raw wheat and candle cadets from the previous nights. The ritual feast includes fresh bread, kolacheta, surmi with pickled cabbage, stuffed peppers, cabbage, beans, nuts, wine.

nWe celebrate this holiday on January 7th.
nIvanov day is also a “name day” in Bulgaria.

St. Basil’s Day
 

On January 1st the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Basil the Great.On this day the people welcome the new year and perform many rituals associated with it.On St. Basil’s day celebrate the name holder’s Vasil, Teodora, Veselin and Veselina.
 
St. Jordan’s Day
 
Epiphany –St. Jordan’s day - is the third most important Christian holiday of the year. According to the biblical legend on this day Jesus Christ was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist.For health all participate in the consecration of the water, after a festive church service, the priest throws the Holy Cross in the water. Young men throw themselves despite the cold and low temperature and remove the cross from the water. Whoever pulls it put will be happy and healthy all year.

What is St. Anthony’s
 
The Orthodox Church in Bulgaria celebrates on January 17 Saint Anthony's Day (Antonovden) to protect people from illnesses. It is also the holiday of all, who bear the name of Saint Anthony.

Legends
  Legend has it that the twin brothers Anthony and Atanas were blacksmiths and were the first to invent the blacksmith's tongs. Anthony's Day is celebrated as a holiday of the blacksmiths, ironmongers, cutters and shoeing smiths.

On the first morning back on January all gather on the square, again the people dance and sing songs and  the most important person again is Vassila-it destined for her to be a prophetess
 
Customs
 


St. Basil is the second Christmas Eve, but blissful. Typical dishes for this festival holiday are the pig trotters head, and in some parts of Bulgaria a boiled cock while it is respecting to not be red.

lGrandmothers` day is a Bulgarian   holiday which is celebrated on the 8th of December. On this day celebrate moms grandmothers and the midwives. People have fun with their family and give presents to the women.
